What is dry hair (and why is your routine no longer enough)?
Dry hair is hair lacking nourishment and/or moisture. It can be naturally dry (curly or coily hair) or dry because of external factors: repeated colouring, heat, harsh brushing, a dry environment or sun exposure.
But not all dry hair is the same: some lacks water, some lacks lipids, and some suffers from high porosity. The result: applying a mask at random isn't enough. You need to understand the exact cause.
Hidden causes you might not suspect
Hard water and limescale
Over time, they can attack the fibre, lifting the cuticles and making hair feel rough to the touch. Mineral deposits can also weigh hair down and make treatments less effective. A rinse with filtered water or an anti-limescale lotion at the end of your routine can make a real difference.
Drying too hot or too close
Even a "quick" blow-dry can dry out the lengths over time. Excessive heat makes the water in the hair evaporate, leaving it brittle and dull. Air that is too hot can also damage the hair's keratin. Using a diffuser nozzle, keeping the hairdryer more than 15 cm away and finishing with a blast of cool air are good habits.
The wrong shampoo
A shampoo that is too harsh can strip the scalp, weaken the fibre and undo all your care efforts. This creates a vicious circle: a scalp that gets greasy too quickly, dried-out ends, and hair that feels "sticky" by the next day. It's essential to match your shampoo to how often you wash, to your hair's porosity and to the condition of your scalp, rather than to generic marketing promises.
An unsuitable home routine
Many clients pile on products: a moisturising mask on hair that lacks nourishment, or a nourishing bath on a scalp that is suffocating. The result: no product can really work, because it isn't chosen according to the real cause. The order of application, the leave-in time, how the active ingredients work together: everything counts. A precise protocol, even a minimal one, is often more effective than a badly targeted pile of products.
The OWA Colors method: care in 3 stages
1. Free Morpho-Conseil consultation
With our Morpho-Conseil consultation, carried out by your hairdresser with the help of the Idélia tool, we analyse your face, your hair texture, your habits and your expectations. It's the basis for understanding what your hair is really telling us.
2. Tailored in-salon treatment protocol
Depending on your real need (moisture, nourishment, repair, detox), we apply the most suitable treatment:
- A Botox Ybéra treatment to coat the fibre and make it softer and easier to style
- A repigmenting gloss if the dryness comes with faded colour
3. Personalised recommendations for home
We explain which products to use, how often, and in what order.
Mistakes to avoid at all costs if you have dry hair
- Washing more often than your scalp needs: the right frequency depends on your scalp and your habits, and your hairdresser will help you find it
- Applying mask to the roots: it's made for the lengths and ends
- Brushing wet hair with an ordinary brush
- Leaving a mask on overnight without your hairdresser's advice: the recommended time is usually enough
In conclusion: what if your dry hair wasn't a lost cause?
At OWA Colors, we believe that a good treatment doesn't start with a bottle, but with really listening. Rather than ordering a shampoo online, come and discover what your hair truly expects from you.
