IllustrationA balayage that adapts to you
Your question
You want light in your hair, but not just any light. Lighter, softer, more subtle or more contrasted: we start from what you want to see in the mirror, and what you want to avoid.
What you discover in the consultation
- Where to place the light according to your face shape, on a light-and-shadow diagram.
- How much to lighten: a contrast in 4 levels, from soft (1 shade) to strong (4 shades or more).
- Why this contrast: it depends on the lines of your face and your everyday make-up.
- Visuals of highlights, balayage, painting or ombré chosen for your length, your base and your tone.
The result
Highlights placed for your face, with a contrast chosen to suit your features and your make-up.
Highlights or balayage?
What is the difference between highlights and balayage?
Highlights lighten clearly defined sections of hair, often using foil: the effect is more pronounced, and the line shows sooner as your hair grows out. Balayage applies the colour more freely and in a more blended way: the result is more natural and the regrowth softer. Ombré, sombré and tiger eye are light effects close to balayage. At OWA Colors, we most often choose balayage or one of its variations, but the right choice depends on the effect you are after and the upkeep that suits you.

Aftercare and follow-up
As the regrowth is softer, balayage generally needs fewer touch-ups than strong highlights. Your hairdresser tells you the recommended frequency for your hair, and the treatments that help keep the shine between two appointments, such as gloss.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a balayage appointment take?
About 3 h for short and mid-length hair, 3 h 30 min for long hair, including gloss, treatment and blow-dry.
Highlights, balayage and light effects: is it the same service?
Yes: everything is brought together in the OWA Colors Balayage Signature package. Same inclusions (tailor-made lightening, finishing gloss, Kérastase bath, blow-dry, Métal Détox protocol and Fusio-Dose concentrate), same prices and same online booking: your hairdresser chooses the technique with you during the diagnosis.
Can I have balayage on hair that is already coloured?
Yes, after a diagnosis in the salon: tell your hairdresser which colours and treatments you have had, as how much lightening is possible depends on it.
How often should balayage be redone?
Generally every 4 to 5 months.
Blonde highlights or blonde balayage: which to choose?
Both lighten. Highlights give a more pronounced blonde, balayage a more blended blonde, with softer regrowth. During the consultation, your hairdresser chooses the shade of blonde according to your skin tone and eyes, and the contrast according to your face and your make-up.
