Why does blonde hair need expert care?
Blonde is a delicate colour. Contrary to popular belief, it's not just a question of shade. A successful blonde depends on the balance between pigment, light, the health of the hair fibre and targeted care. Without a suitable protocol, golden or copper tones quickly take over, hair becomes porous, and the colour loses its shine.
And it's even more true if your hair is highlighted, bleached or balayaged.
What causes fading and yellowing
Hard water and heavy metals
Found in tap water, they dull the pigments and make hair feel rough. The result: yellow tones, dried-out hair fibre, a colour that turns "greyish". These deposits can build up on the fibre and get in the way of treatments. Depending on your water, your hairdresser may recommend an occasional clarifying treatment, or even a shower filter.
Sun and pollution
UV rays oxidise blonde pigments, while pollution clings to the hair fibre and makes it dull. Without protection, your highlights can get damaged more quickly. In summer as in town, fine particles settle on the lengths, smothering the fibre and altering cool tones. Wearing a hat, using treatments with UV filters or an acidic rinse at the end of your routine help limit the damage.
Styling product residue
Sprays, mousses and hairsprays that aren't rinsed out properly can leave a film on the hair that dulls the light. Hair looks more matt, and the colour fades. This invisible film also stops corrective pigments from settling properly. A weekly purifying shampoo, combined with a routine that's light on silicones, helps bring back clarity and shine.
Using unsuitable shampoos
A "classic" shampoo doesn't remove unwanted undertones. It can even worsen an imbalance of the scalp and weaken the hair fibre. Formulas that are too harsh can make the colour fade faster and let golden or copper tones come back. A shampoo designed for blonde hair, with pigments that neutralise unwanted tones, helps keep your colour balanced.
The OWA Colors method: enhance and protect your blonde
1. Free Morpho-Conseil consultation
In the salon, we start with a full diagnosis: type of blonde, condition of the hair fibre, complexion, style, habits. This lets us recommend the ideal treatment or gloss for your shade.
2. Tailor-made treatment protocol in the salon
Depending on your needs, we use:
- An anti-yellow shampoo
- A violet or pearl repigmenting treatment
- A cool gloss to neutralise yellow tones
- A deep nourishing treatment if your highlights are sensitised
All treatments are carried out by our expert colourists, for a natural, luminous result perfectly suited to your complexion.
3. Personalised advice for home
We help you build a simple, targeted routine: how often to shampoo, colour-fixing treatment, rinsing tips, UV protection… All explained by your hairdresser.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Leaving a violet treatment on for too long (risk of blue or grey tones)
- Switching between too many different brands with no consistency
- Using a straightener that's too hot without heat protection
- Leaving too long between nourishing treatments for fear of weighing hair down
